The Complete Guide to Robert's Rules of Order Made Easy: Everything You Need to Know Explained Simply by Rita Cook

The Complete Guide to Robert's Rules of Order Made Easy: Everything You Need to Know Explained Simply

TTaylorR, November 9, 2008

Who is Robert and why are his rules so important? For anyone who has to attend or manage regular meetings for their workplace or organization, “Robert’s Rules of Order” are vital to know how to best manage the order of the meeting itself with the intent of it being productive and respectful of others in attendance.

The author of this book explains that “Robert” or rather General Henry Martyn Robert was an important figure in history as he was a leader of his community in Massachusetts in the 1870’s with a great interest in the methods of the English Parliament, the prototype of what is now referred to as Democracy. The Parliament model demands that meetings are held in such a way that all members are heard in a respectful and civilized manner. Robert modified the ideas that he gathered into a set of ten rules that can be applied to meetings in the modern age. Specific case studies of the rules are provided as well as ideas you can use to introduce them into your own organization’s meetings.

“Roberts’ Rules of Order” are illustrated in a clear and concise manner so that the average reader can understand and apply the principles of “Roberts Rules of Order” easily. Not only will you find this book a very interesting and often humorous read, but you will find out more about why meetings and time management are valuable tools used by organizations to improve things and bring people together to come up with innovative ideas. While the rules themselves are based on traditional ideas, one could learn a great deal about how best to manage a company as a whole from reading this book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in a management role or who may be in the process of starting their own venture.

The Social Security & Medicare Handbook: What You Need to Know Explained Simply by V. R. Leonard
The Social Security & Medicare Handbook: What You Need to Know Explained Simply

TTaylorR, November 9, 2008

“The Social Security and Medicare Handbook” by V.R. Leonard, is a handbook designed to educate the reader in an easy-to-read format about the Social Security and Medicare system. The author explains in great detail many aspects of this system in order to make the entire concept seem less confusing to the average person. In other words, you don’t have to be an expert to understand how Social Security and Medicare can best benefit you.

Found in the various chapters of this handbook are helpful tips on what to expect when applying for Social Security and Medicare benefits. The author guides the reader through every step of this process from initially applying for benefits to what information is required to what to do if you are rejected for benefits. It also contains a nice section on applying for benefits for handicapped children as well as other local community programs that low-income or disabled people may be eligible for; information that’s often hard to find through other sources.

The author, who is a professional researcher, gives a great deal of insight into the Social Security Administration, including the history, how the system itself operates and how to successfully work within the system to get the benefits you may need. There is also a section about the future of the Social Security Administration and how the privatization of healthcare may affect this system in coming years. Numerous other professionals, such as physicians, lawyers and advocates, who have many years of experience helping clients get Social Security benefits, offer their candid advice as well. That in and of itself is worth giving this handbook a good read.
